ABC and DEF (Delicious Exciting Food)

Ales, Brews and Ciders [or ABC as it’s known fondly] has made quite an entry to the Pune culinary scene recently with it’s huge-ass space – indoors, outdoors and private garden area. Their own brewery shall be operational very soon.

The ambiance

Recently, ABC bestowed a great honor upon us by hosting a #TheBTeamExclusive in the afternoon over a casual lunch full of delicious food, potent drinks and laughter all around. And here is a rundown of my #FreakyExperience.

Exclusively curated menu for #TheBTeam

With Mohsin at the helm of affairs here, the LIITs were always going to be potent [and lit] and he did not disappoint. The Long Island Iced Tea here will tell you exactly why he is held in such high esteem for his cocktail making skills. #DeadlyPotent

The Maggi Cheese Sushi is one of their signature dish here. Maggi noodles, rolled in a sushi mat and stuffed with cheese, this quite honestly did not appeal to me at all at first. However having always been a fan of Maggi, this instantly became a favorite of mine. Loved the combination of Maggi with cheese and the sushi rolls shape only made it easier for us to lift and pop ‘em in our mouths. Ended up having more than my fair share of the dish. #DeliciousDelicious

Maggi Cheese Sushi [Rs. 290]

The Tandoori Thecha Mushrooms and the Stuffed Mushrooms in Paprika Sauce both retained the juiciness of the mushrooms and were nicely complemented by the sauce. A special mention to the Chef for his fire-in-the-ass inducing thecha, an absolute and quite literal explosion of flavors in your mouth. #YumYum #HighlyRecommended

Stuffed Mushrooms in Paprika Sauce [Rs. 300]

The Mutton Sheekh Stuffed with Liquid Cheese is ABC ‘s twist on the traditional sheekh kebab but with signature liquid cheese inside. Again, a little skeptical at first, I was a convert upon my first bite. Loved the combination of the sheekh with the cheese. #DeliciousDelicious

Seafood Starters

Prawns Satay had grilled and minced prawns served on lemongrass skewers with peanut sauce while the Tempura Coated Wasabi Prawns had a twist of wasabi inside. Both very well prepared dishes, the wasabi prawns stole the show with the unusual twist.

Prawns Satay [Rs. 400]
Tempura Coated Wasabi Prawns [Rs. 425]

The Afghani Fish Malai Tikka sported a lovely white texture overall with uniform char marks on the top. Delicately seasoned fish, it was succulent and went perfectly with the LIIT. #DeliciousDelicious

Afghani Fish Malai Tikka [Rs. 350]

The Pork Overload Pizza had crispy bacon chunks on a pizza base overloaded with pork mince however felt the pizza to be bland. No punch of flavors from the mince, we were content to picking the bacon chunks off of the za. Thankfully the Five Cheese Pizza with mozzarella, parmesan, processed cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses was delish. The pulled strings of the cheese when picked up, was a sight to behold. #YumYum

Pork Overload Pizza [Rs. 450]
Five Cheese Pizza [Rs. 390]

Having stuffed ourselves silly with the appetizers and pizzas, the mains were more of a formality for the tasting.

The Prawns Malai Curry [Rs. 400] had a lovely creamy broth with a strong mustard punch, went well with the steamed rice served along with. The Kari Kapitan Prawns [Rs. 320/350/400] were equally delicious when paired with a burnt garlic fried rice.

The Baked Pasta in White Sauce [Rs. 375/400] was the sole Italian on the table [much like the leader of a certain national party :-P]. While the pasta was cooked perfectly, the sauce felt a tad bland. A dash of salt and pepper and it would’ve been perfect.

The Indonesian Lamb Curry [Rs. 400] and the Phad Thai Noodles [Rs. 350/375/400] were standard fares – good presentation, decent taste.

The amazing aroma of ghee [or clarified butter] that wafted from the Mutton Rogan Josh [Rs. 400] certainly tempted me however relenting to a full stomach, I ended up just licking a tablespoon.

Drinks apart, the food itself at ABC is worth making the drive over to Kalyani Nagar. With a wonderful ambiance to boot, ABC is certainly going to be a place to watch out for.

Crazy us!

A big shout out to Heena for inviting us and Mohsin and Team ABC for hosting us.
